Slice of Life: 5-16-16

Hello there. It’s been a long time since I’ve last posted so I wanted to pop in for an update. A lot has been happening in my life.

I lost two of my dogs in less than a year’s time. One to cancer and one to kidney disease. My dogs are children to me, as I don’t have children, so you can imagine that I took these losses very hard.

My parents had a rough patch with some medical issues but are doing much better now. It was a stressful time because I was unable to go and help them out but thankfully my sister was. I’m so grateful that she was able to be there for them when they needed help.

Recently I lost my job. Many of us were laid off due to restructuring in the company. Our work was relocated to another division in another city. Needless to say this has been a huge life changing event for me. Not only financially but emotionally. Out of all the jobs I’ve had in my life this one was my favorite because of the people I worked with. There were a few rotten apples and some policies that were not the best but the group of women that I worked with were like family to me. It’s been an adjustment to not see them everyday.

My husband also had a recent medical event that was quite scary. Thank God he’s okay. I don’t know what I would have done had I lost him.

These days I’ve been searching for employment and focusing on growing my Etsy shop. Truthfully, the first few weeks of unemployment were great. I got some much needed rest but now I’m starting to get cabin fever. It’s extremely hard for me to be focused at home. It’s very easy to get distracted by Netflix and my favorite TV shows. The great thing about working outside the home is that you have no choice but to have structure. It’s been hard at home trying to create a schedule where I’m working on my business a set number of hours.

I’ve let this blog completely slip in the last several months. I want to start posting again since I have time now to devote to blogging. I’m going to try to post once a week on a regular basis. That’s enough to not overwhelm myself and take on too much too soon.

We’ll see how well I stick to this but I’m sure going to try.

Thanks for taking the time to read my update and I hope to see you again in another post very soon.

  1. Hi Melissa, I am so sorry to hear of all the difficult events going on in your life, and appreciate you sharing with us. You definitely have been hit with one thing after another. Sometimes life can be so hard and no doubt you and your family with get through it all. As I read this post, I was relieved that your parents and husband are doing fine now. You often wrote of your darling puppies and I was saddened to read of your loss as those four-legged cuties brought so much love into your life. Everything will work out so continue to hang in there. I always enjoy your posts but I suggest you go at your own pace and not put too much pressure on yourself. Please know that your followers are in your corner. Take care. P.S. The link to your Etsy shop did not seem to work.
