Simple Monkey Cookies

I just finished this set of safari cookies for a friend and thought I’d show you how I made the monkey’s mouths uniform.
It’s really simple and not a new technique by any means. First, I found an image of an oval online and scaled it down to the size I wanted before printing. I cut it out and traced around it with a food color marker.聽If you’re hands are a little steadier than mine you will trace it perfectly. In hindsight, I should have used a piece of card stock for a sturdier template.
Next, I used piping consistency icing to outline slightly outside of the line and then filled with flood icing. If you prefer to work in one consistency of icing then you can do it all with a 20-second consistency icing. Again, steady hands will make this look perfect.
I finished up the cookie by adding the ear detail, eyes, nostrils and a smile. I wasn’t too concerned about the ears being uniform but if you are you can find an image of a half moon and use this same technique.
Hope you have a great week. I can’t believe how fast weekends fly by. I’ll be working on a tiny cake this week and then hopefully testing some recipes to share if nothing else comes up.

Hi! Love these and I’m going to try to make them for my son’s 1st birthday. What is a 20second consistency icing? And would you mind sharing what tool you used for the decorations on these? And where do you find the brown colors? Ugh, so much to know! Thank you!
