“Will You Be My Cinderella?”

Do you have children that are getting ready for school dances or do you know someone who's child is getting ready for a school dance? Well I have an idea for you but before I share it I have to share with you that I never went to any of my school dances growing up. Sad but true. Until my junior year in high school I wore glasses, was awkward, shy and a bit of a nerd. I was one of those girls that everyone wanted to copy off of in class or they wanted me to do their homework for them. I graduated in the top 10% of my class. I wasn't exactly dance material back then. Junior year I got contacts … [Continue reading...]

Writing On A Cookie Using A Kopykake

writing-on-a-cookie-with-kopykake

Have you ever had plans to do something and then everything that could happen that you did not plan on happens? Well that is what always happens to me. I was all set this weekend to work on my first tutorial and then work on a cookie project that's been stirring in my head for weeks. I watched the news Thursday morning and found out that it is supposed to be raining all weekend long. Rain is a cookie decorators worse nightmare because it can pose so many problems with your icing. Thankfully my icing guardian angels were looking out for me and all came out well. Well....all was well until it … [Continue reading...]

How I Like To Store My Icing Tips

storing-icing-tips

I'm back from my weekend trip and I'm excited to start working on a cookie project that has been stirring in my brain for weeks. Do you daydream about cookies? Well I do. I can be going about my day and all of a sudden random cookie ideas pop in my head. I think I may have a problem. Do you dream about cookies? I do. I wake up some mornings realizing that I dreamt about cookies and what I'd like to try next. Did I mention that I have a problem? Hopefully what is in my head will come out the way I want it to on this next set of cookies. Anyway, while I'm prepping for my next project I … [Continue reading...]

How I Like To Clean My Icing Bottles

cleaning-icing-bottles

Today's post is short & sweet. I wanted to share with you how I like to clean my icing bottles. I like to use a baby bottle brush to clean them out real good and dry them on a rack for baby bottles. That's it! I'm sure most of you already do this but I thought I'd share anyway. The rack comes in handy to dry your piping bags too. I like to use the plastic wrap method, by Karen at karenscookies.net to fill my piping bags. However, even with this method you still get icing on the coupler and they need to be rinsed out. The rack does a good job of holding them while they dry. The … [Continue reading...]

100 Facebook Fans Giveaway

The giveaway is now closed. The winner is comment # 14. Congratulations! I will be contacting you by email for your mailing address. Thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway. I enjoyed reading your comments. Some people have giveaways when they reach 1000, 2000 or 5000 fans on Facebook. Huge milestones! Well for me 100 Facebook fans was my first big milestone. When I created this blog in October 2011 it was mainly for my friends and family to be able to see my creations. In January of this year I decided why not create a Facebook page for my blog and see where it goes. One … [Continue reading...]

Marshmallow Fondant (MMF)

This is an impromptu post. I was planning on posting some cookies this week but it didn't happen. Instead, I made some marshmallow fondant (MMF). It was my first time making it and overall I'd say it was successful. Am I 100% sold on it? Not sure??? One of my friends has asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday. I've made a few cakes before so I was thinking that it wouldn't be a problem. Well I was wrong. She wants a two tiered cake that looks like presents. This is where it gets interesting. I have never made a two tier cake and I have never covered a cake with fondant. I think I … [Continue reading...]

Cristin’s Cookie Challenge – Mickey Mouse Cookies

Today several cookie decorators are doing a link-up party over at Cristin's Cookies. I am super excited to participate in my first challenge. The theme of the challenge is Mickey Mouse. Cristin chose this theme because they are celebrating her son's 18th birthday at Disneyland. Very exciting! I've been to Disneyworld once many years ago and it was quite the experience. We only spent a few days there and there is so much that I did not get to see. I would love to go back again or go to Disneyland. Let me just say that character cookies are not my favorite cookies to make. I find them to be … [Continue reading...]

Got Cookbooks?

I can't remember exactly when I started collecting cookbooks but I've been doing it for a number of years. I thought I'd share some pictures of my collection with you (I think I have more in boxes). I have a five shelf bookcase in my office and the first four shelves are full of cookbooks and cooking magazines. My collection is always growing. In fact on the way back from my recent trip to visit my parents I added four more books. I picked them up at a gas station that sells all sorts of things called Buc-ee's. It's a Texas thing. If you ever come across one definitely stop on in. It is a neat … [Continue reading...]

Valentine’s Day Penguins & More

Today I'm sharing more Valentine's Day designs with you. Next up is a cute penguin couple. You might be thinking that Valentine's penguins are not typical but the weather is still cold out so why not penguins? I had the idea to do this design ever since I saw this post by a new blogger The Bearfoot Baker. I was able to find the cutter she used at Michael's Craft Store. I got it on clearance for $.99. Can you say score? I will not go into detail about the design of this cookie because her tutorial is superb. I simply adapted it to be a Valentine's theme. You could use this cute cutter for so … [Continue reading...]

Valentine’s Day Lovebirds & Owls

Today I want to share some Valentine's Day cookie designs with you. I've had friends ask me how I decorate my cookies so my plan was to do a tutorial to show you how I did one or two of the designs. Unfortunately, that plan went out the window when I opened up the pictures and realized they were all junk. My photography skills need some work. I'm a point & shoot gal. The pictures I've taken that have turned out well came out purely by luck. I always try to use natural light when taking photos but I was decorating in the evening. I tend to be very impatient & did not want to wait until … [Continue reading...]
