Slice of Life Sundays: 9-21-14


Another Sunday is upon us. The weekends go by way too fast. The only thing that makes it a good day is that Total Divas is on tonight on E. Lol! Yes that’s a guilty pleasure of mine. I like to see these woman be friendly on the one hand and then catty on the other. With WWE shows being scripted it’s nice to see their real lives outside of their characters.

You know what else I’m excited about? The Voice! It starts tomorrow. My DVR is going to be working hard. I’ll be watching The Voice and Dancing with the Stars simultaneously. I hate commercials so I switch back & forth until I get through both shows. My husband totally hates this time of year. When he gets home from work he knows that I’m going to ignore him because I’m so into my shows. Sorry babe.

This Friday I started the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. I was really nervous about it. Mainly the cleanse phase and the fiber drink. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I thought that it would have you running to the bathroom all day but it doesn’t. It’s gentle and you just go naturally. I know TMI. Lol! I was also scared because I get nauseous at the drop of a hat with certain tastes and textures. I mix the fiber drink with 1/2 water & 1/2 100% orange juice. You’re supposed to have a serving of fruit with breakfast so I feel like this takes care of my fruit serving. With any plan you have to do what works for you and this is what works for me.

So far things are going well. I’m on day three and my stomach is already going down. When I weighed myself the morning of day two I was down 2.8 lbs but I know that it is water weight. It hasn’t been easy in terms of eating. I’m a serious food addict. It’s been an adjustment to eat clean. I think I went through a bit of withdrawal on days one & two but today I’m feeling better.

The only thing that will be difficult is that I’m a food blogger and I blog about sweets. I can’t post a recipe without tasting what I make. I will feel guilty about it but as long as I don’t sit there and eat a ton of sweets I’ll be okay. I don’t want to come across as a hypocrite because I’m trying to eat healthy and lose weight and then post dessert recipes. The way I look at it is like this: I’m doing this plan to kick start my weight loss and lead me to a healthier lifestyle but to never enjoy foods you love is not realistic. Life should be about balance. Eat well 90% of the time and then indulge 10% of the time (or 95%/5%). My problem was that I was indulging every day. As a sufferer of fibromyalgia I ate away my pain for years and developed horrible habits. I’m on a path to get back to a healthier me that eats well, exercises and can enjoy a treat now & then.
