Ballerina Cookies

I had a crazy busy week last week. Things at work have been hectic. We are down a person in our department, due to medical leave, so it has just made things crazy for the last two months. At the end of each month we have to close our books and the week leading up to it can sometimes be madness. Wish me luck that today goes smoothly.

Sometimes I feel like I’m stretching myself thin between work and trying to maintain this blog. I’m not always timely with my posts but I try to get them done as soon as I can. These ballerina cookies were made a couple of weeks ago for a co-worker’s daughter’s dance recital. It’s the third time I’ve made cookies for her recitals. I really love that she gives me the freedom to do what I want.

Instead of trying to be 100% creative, I chose to make Sweet Sugarbelle’s Bowing Ballerinas. Her design is so unique, whimsical and fun. I knew that it would be the perfect design to do this year. I used a flower cutter and a mini diamond ring cutter. I reshaped the dough with my fingers to achieve a more rounded look on the top of the ring.

When I make cookies for her I like to try to match one of the outfits from the recital in some way. I think I captured the feel of the outfit. The colors could have been a little brighter but some of the elements are there.

I’m not sure if you can really tell in the picture but I used another technique that I saw on Sweet Sugarbelle’s Decorated Basketball Cookies. I airbrushed the tutus using nylon netting. It was probably an unnecessary step but I wanted the tutus to have that mesh look. Even though I’m trying really hard to stick to simplistic decorating I still sometimes think I need to do more.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have an awesome week. If you’re a fellow blogger don’t forget to come back Thursday evening at 7pm CST for our next Party in Your PJ’s link party. We are excited to have a guest co-host joining us this week. There’s still time to link up to last week’s party here. You never now you might get a feature.
