In my last Slice of Life Sundays post I showed you a frame that I had painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint. Today I thought I’d show you what I did with that frame. I turned it into a chalkboard.
Chalkboard frames are nothing new but I thought I would still show you how I transformed the frame I bought at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off into the final product.
I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in Provence and applied two coats.
I didn’t picture theses steps but after the paint dried I applied Annie Sloan Clear Wax to seal it. Then I applied a very small amount of Annie Sloan Dark Wax over the carved detail.
Finally, using Rustoleum Chalkboard spray paint I coated the existing glass from the frame (I used this video as my guide). I let it dry for a day and then primed my chalkboard by rubbing a piece of chalk on it’s side all over the surface.
I need to work on my chalkboard writing skills but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I can’t wait to make another one soon for my cookie room.
Sorry for the bad lighting in my final pics. It’s been cloudy and raining. I would say that the pics of the first and second coats accurately show the true color of Provence. It’s an amazing color.
Soon I’ll be posting the kitchen table I’m transforming using this paint.

Thanks Terri. I finished the table and chairs. Just waiting on better lighting to take a pic to share. I’m proud of myself and happy with how everything turned out. I washed the table down with TSP but sadly it still has a smoke smell. I didn’t smell it out in the garage while painting so I thought it was gone. I’m hoping it will fade with time.

I just made one of these too and LOVE it! Yours is really cute! There are loads of printable patterns (quotes/pictures) on Pinterest! Drawing/writing on my chalkboard has become an obsession for each season/holiday! Have fun! 🙂

They are so much fun! Your’s turned out so pretty. I purchased a home made one in a frame, for my craft room. I thought it would be fun to note the birthday cards I need each month. It was only $10.00 and I couldn’t pass it up. The chalk board is a bit rough. I think I need to sand it and apply another coat of CB paint. I love that you craft and make cookies.
