Slice of Life Sundays: 12-15-13

slice-of-life-sundays

Hello friends. Hope you’re having a great weekend. I’ve been busy dealing with my dog’s illness. She’s not improving with the treatments we’ve tried so far so our next step is to see a specialist to see if there’s anything else that we can do. If this specialist tells us what the other vets have told us then we’ll know for sure that she’s not going to get better. I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster since we first got the news that her kidneys were not functioning properly and then when we found out that she had a bladder stone. I haven’t given up hope just yet.

On top of this I’ve been dealing with my own struggles. I have a stress fracture in my foot. I think I got it when I started exercising again regularly. Needless to say this has added to my stress. I had finally started losing weight and was getting back into a routine when it all hit a brick wall. To try and continue losing weight while I can’t exercise I’ve started paying a lot more attention to my diet. It hasn’t been easy with the holiday parties I’ve been attending though.

While my shows were on hiatus for the holidays I signed up for Netflix. I started watching Gossip Girl again from the beginning and quickly became hooked again. I stopped watching the show at the end of season three. I’ve always wanted to know how it ended. Much to my husband’s dismay I can’t stop watching until I finish it. I have it on anytime I’m home. It’s on while I’m cooking, eating dinner, getting ready in the morning, working on cookies, writing blog posts, etc. It’s become an obsession and my other shows have been put on hold until I get through all the season.

That’s what’s been going on in my life right now. I have a busy week ahead. The building I work in is hosting a breakfast for us on Tuesday, Thursday we are having our Christmas lunch as well as a dessert contest and Sunday is my husband’s Christmas party. I’ll be glad when Christmas is over and things slow down.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week.

  1. Melissa,

Me too! I will pray for a healthy outcome for your doggie. My doggie lost his battle on Wednesday. I’m still trying to control my emotions so that I’m not a blubbery mess in public. Funny thing was, the day he passed I had a HUGE cookie order due, so I had to come home from the vet’s and stay up all night to finish the cookies, the whole time crying. My daughter kept trying to make me laugh by saying I was going to have salty tasting cookies if I kept it up!

Again, Melissa, you are not going through this alone. We are hear to be with you in this time for what ever you may need, even if it is just to read what you have to say and share your burden. I hope it lightens your load.

    • Thank you so much Tracy. I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you are feeling. You are a very strong woman to have been able to still make cookies after losing your beloved dog. God bless you.

I’m happy to report that Pepper’s levels are stabilized. We finally found a “cocktail” that seems to be working. The vet said to keep doing what we are doing and he’ll recheck her in 2-3 months. I still have worry in the back of my mind but I feel a huge sense of relief.

  2. Melissa,

Is it Zoe that is sick? Is she a corgi? My dog, Diesel was a corgi too. I love corgis! I hope your sweetie gets better!

  3. Melissa, So sorry to hear your dog is not progressing as hoped. In the meantime, spend as much time with her as possible. Wishing you a quick recovery on your fracture. I hope you can find some joy in this holiday season. Condolences to Tracy V above about the loss of her puppy. Take care.

    • Thank you Joan. Sorry to reply so late. I got some good news today. Pepper’s levels have stabilized and the doctors feels like she is in a good place. He said to continue to do what we are doing and he’ll recheck her in 2-3 months. It’s the best news I’ve had in awhile. Feeling less weight on my shoulders.

    • Just wanted to let you know that today I got some good news. Pepper is doing well. She is stable. Her kidneys are still not 100% but her numbers have gotten a little better. The doc says to keep up what we are doing.
