Santa Mustache & Beard Cookies: “Staching Through the Snow”

When my friend Stephanie of Ellie’s Bites Decorated Cookies contacted me about doing a collaboration I was totally on board. Her idea was called “Staching Through the Snow”. We would create decorated cookies that had to include a mustache. I decided that a mustache alone was not enough. What I came up with are these double decker Santa mustaches & beards.

To make the cookies you will need:

  • white piping and flood icing
  • mustache cutter
  • flower cutter
  • knife

Begin with a mustache and flower cutter and cut each shape from your dough.

Then using a knife cut petals off of the flower straight across. I cut off three but hindsight is 20/20 and I would cut off less if I was doing these over again.

After the cookies have baked and cooled outline & flood them.

Allow the cookies to dry completely. Then take some of the piping icing and attach the mustache to the beard.

Once the cookies have had time to set add details. I’m not the best at swirls & I’m sure that you will do them much better than me. If doing these again I would keep them simple and not add the swirls.

There’s still time to give these a try. I hope that you will. Depending on the flower shape and mustache shape you can make several variations.

Now let’s see what creative genius Stephanie came up with here.

  7. I love these Melissa! I think your instincts to use 5 petals was spot on. If you cut the flower in half, it would only give 4 petals and Santa’s beard would have been square instead of a V shape. Merry Christmas! if I don’t get back here before then. I love your blog and all that you share. I made my first cookies for Thanksgiving and it’s such a fun thing to make and share.

  15. Hello Melissa, thank you for posting this. Although, it’s February already, I don’t think I’m late for this. I was searching for ideas, specifically for mustache beard, I am a baker, and my brother’s wife is pregnant, and it’s a boy.. So.. my brother wanted to surprise her for the baby shower, I think this is the best idea that I can follow. I hope it goes well. Do you have any suggestions for baby shower cake for boys? That would be really helpful. Thank you.
