Eyeball Jar Cookies

When holidays roll around I’m always thinking of new and creative designs to share with you. As soon as I saw this jar cutter from Sweet Sugarbelle I immediately knew what I was going to do with it. I knew that I wanted to fill it with eyeballs. Let’s see how to make these simple cookies.

To make eyeball jar cookies you will need:

• AmeriColor food writers in your choice of colors
• white chocolate coated candies
• white piping icing
• light blue flood icing
• orange piping & flood icing

Begin by making the eyeballs. Take the candies and draw circles with each color of food writer and then make a pupil with black. I made these days ahead of time and kept them in an airtight container.

Next, with white piping icing and orange piping icing outline the cookie and allow the outlines to dry. I took this picture before I outlined the top knob.

If you have trouble with bleeding you will want to wait in between the next steps. I don’t usually have problems so I flooded both sections. I waited to fill the knob until the lid of the jar had set a bit. This gave more dimension.

Then, immediately begin dropping the eyeballs where you want them. Once the cookie is dry add highlights to the eyes and details to the jar.

I tried three different styles. One has the eyeballs together in matching pairs, another has eyeballs just randomly floating around and the final has all the eyeballs gathered toward one side.

The great thing about these cookies is that they are customizable.

I found my white candies at my local party supply store. I found both brand name and generic ones. If you can’t find them locally you can purchase some here. Also, you could do this design in a wet on wet technique similar to Sugarbelle’s cookie jars. Finally you could cut small circles of fondant using a piping tip, allow them to dry and then color the eyes. I’ve provided you with the idea. How you make them is totally up to you.
