Attaching Cookies To A Cake {Tutorial}

Today I would like to show you how I attached the cookies to the Autism Awareness cake I made for my guest post at The Cookie Puzzle.

For the toppers I used bamboo forks and attached them to the back of the cookies with some royal icing. Once they dried completely I put the toppers on the cake by sliding the forks into the cake.
For the cookies around the cake I put some buttercream icing on the back of the cookie and attached it to the cake {I forgot to picture this step before using all the puzzle cookies so I used a spare topper cookie to demonstrate}. I used a crusting buttercream on my cake so the cookies set on the cake as the icing crusted. If your cake is decorated with fondant you can attach the cookies to the cake with royal icing.
I don’t have a picture of this step but for the two puzzle cookies on the top of the cake I put a couple of blobs of buttercream on the cake and laid the cookies on top to give them a raised and dimensional look.
That’s it. Attaching cookies to cakes is a breeze and if you’re like me and not the best cake decorator it’s a great way to decorate cakes.

  2. Bamboo Forks…why didn’t I think of that? Dang..great idea..I don’t do many cakes, but I have had requests from customers for cookies for them to put on cakes…I will have to remember that next time.great idea..Oh…and the cake is beyond cute!

  3. I love your cake and that you made it for this very special cause.

  4. Bamboo forks!! I wondered how that was done. Great tip! I have never done cakes…..I’m skeered, but I did do cupcakes 馃檪 not very successful. Maybe I should have tried your butter cream recipe. Next time I will!
