I’ve never been a big fan of St. Patrick’s Day. I don’t know why or when it happened. Maybe it’s the whole getting pinched thing or the fact that the movie Leprechaun made me not be able to look at a leprechaun without being creeped out.
This year I wanted to do something a little different than the traditional designs you see for St. Patrick’s Day. I got to thinking about the saying “luck of the Irish”. Why do the Irish get to have all the fun this month? Do people believe in luck and good luck charms? That’s when it hit me. I would do a group project asking my cookie friends and favorite cookiers to show me their good luck charms in cookie form.
There are two things that I collect as good luck charms. Turtles and elephants. For this project I chose to make elephants.
An elephant is said to symbolize power, strength, protection, wisdom, fertility and good luck. Elephants are majestic creatures. They are large in size and have great strength but there is a kindness about them. I have several elephants in my home. I’m not sure that they really bring me any “luck” but they’re nice to look at.
This is my favorite piece and the inspiration behind the cookies.
Enough about my elephants. Take a look at all these amazing cookies! Please be sure to visit all the pages to find out why each participant chose to make what they did. I can’t wait to read all the posts.
Thank you so much to everyone that participated in this project. I truly appreciate it.
