This year I wanted to do something a little different than the traditional designs you see for St. Patrick's Day. I got to thinking about the saying "luck of the Irish". Why do the Irish get to have all the fun this month? Do people believe in luck and good luck charms? That's when it hit me. I would do a group project asking my cookie friends and favorite cookiers to show me their good luck charms in cookie form.
There are two things that I collect as good luck charms. Turtles and elephants. For this project I chose to make elephants.
An elephant is said to symbolize power, strength, protection, wisdom, fertility and good luck. Elephants are majestic creatures. They are large in size and have great strength but there is a kindness about them. I have several elephants in my home. I'm not sure that they really bring me any "luck" but they're nice to look at.
This is my favorite piece and the inspiration behind the cookies.
Enough about my elephants. Take a look at all these amazing cookies! Please be sure to visit all the pages to find out why each participant chose to make what they did. I can't wait to read all the posts.

I can not thank you enough for including me in this project. From day one you have given me inspiration and courage to do things that I never thought was possible for me to do :) Secondly, my daughter was given a silver elephant for luck on her wedding day. I never understood the symbol of the elephant until I read your blog. Great job Melissa!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for organizing this collaborative project! I love your elephants and the inspiration piece behind them. I heard that it's even better good luck if you have elephant figures with their trunk posed up rather than toward the ground. You must be swimming in luck. :-P
ReplyDeleteLove these elephants! I collect them also. Your inspiration piece is absolutely stunning as is the cookie interpretation!
ReplyDeleteYour post made me laugh...Leprechaun the movie was terrible and just freaky.
Wonderful post and project! Thank you for including me...it was so much fun. <3
Thank you so much for the invitation to participate in this project, I love seeing everyone's creations. I love elephants, and I have heard they bring luck.
ReplyDeleteI love your awesome elephants! So cool :)
ReplyDeleteI love your elephant cookies Melissa. Would you believe I still have to re-type your name every single time I type it. There really should be two L's just to make my life a little easier ;-) Sorry I got side-tracked ;-) I love the color of your elephants too and all that they symbolize. Thanks for inviting me to join in this collaborative project. It was really fun to read everyone's story.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful cookies. And the inspiration piece is amazing. I saw real elephants in Thailand- not zoo ones and it was amazing! They truly are beautiful and majestic animals!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother believed that elephants were lucky and collected figurines of them for years! She amassed quite a collection but would only collect elephants with their trunks up, believing that those were the lucky ones.
ReplyDeleteI love your cookies and the piece that inspired them. Great collaborative project idea!
