Thanksgiving 2011

This year for Thanksgiving I wanted to do something different from the standard pumpkin pie. Of course, I wanted to make some decorated cookies. I decided to go with a simple fall theme of sunflowers, leaves and acorns. The inspiration came from SweetSugarBelle. I love how they came out.

I wanted to try making cupcakes in a jar. I'm not quite sure where this idea originated from but I first saw it done by Glorious Treats. The cupcakes are a pumpkin spice cupcake and the icing is caramel flavored buttercream. Very delicious.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I just love this time of year. I'm looking forward to making my first Christmas cookies.

Red & White Rose Swirl Cake aka Queen of Hearts Cake

This cake is becoming quite a favorite amongst my family & friends. I"m starting to get several requests for it. This time instead of making the cake all one color my friend requested red & white roses. I love how it turned out but let me say that red is not the easiest color to make. Also, it was very challenging to alternate the colors without ending up with two roses of the same color next to each other. I guess I'm just picky. My friend loved the cake and so did her mother-in-law who the cake was for. I'm officially going to call this cake my Queen of Hearts cake since I love Alice in Wonderland. Are those real red roses or are they painted? Lol!

50's Birthday Party

I made these cookies for my co-worker to celebrate her mother's 60th birthday. When I was asked if I could do 50's themed cookies my first thought was oh no. After searching the internet for ideas I could not find many cookies that had been done in a 50's theme. The best 50's cookies I found were made by SweetSugarBelle. She was the inspiration behind this set. I'm pretty pleased with how they came out. Since my co-worker is into scrapbooking I wanted to try making custom cookie tags. It was my first time making them and I think they really added a nice touch.
